Hi, I'm Yifan.
MEng Engineering Science · Balliol College, University of Oxford
I study Engineering Science at Balliol College, Oxford. I started out in competitive programming (USACO Platinum, NOIP Second Prize) and now build things across hardware and software: a low-latency limit order book in C++20, an LLM-based loan-file verification pipeline during my summer 2026 internship at WZ Group, indoor-navigation algorithms in a research lab at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, a Raspberry Pi robot tank and an educational history game. Most of the demos on this site are written in C++ and run in your browser through WebAssembly. Outside engineering, I play the violin (Grade 10), sing in the Balliol College Chapel Choir and play football.

Nanjing Foreign Language School
2022 – 2025Chinese High School Curriculum
A-Levels (self-study)
2022 – 2024Mathematics A* · Further Mathematics A* · Physics A* · Chemistry A*
Awards
- Physics Bowl Gold (China Division II), AAPT 2024
- USACO Platinum, USA Computing Olympiad 2022

Experience
Asset Management Intern — Wuchan Zhongda Asset Management Co., Ltd. (WZ Group)
Jun – Sep 2026- Built an automated loan-file verification pipeline on a locally deployed LLM (Qwen, 4-bit): PDF table extraction, document classification, ID cross-checks and amount extraction.
- Rewrote it as a CPU-only rules engine that matched the LLM on 74/74 classifications and 73/74 amounts over 385 pages, at over 30x the throughput and with no GPU.
- Performed third-party valuation of large non-performing personal debt portfolios, and due diligence and debt-transfer structuring for mining-company acquisitions.
Software Developer (Micro-internship) — Legal Pythia
Dec 2025- Co-developed an educational history game set in Ancient Egypt: designed the core map and implemented custom gameplay logic in RPG Maker, extended with JavaScript.
- Integrated historical assets and contributed to a Medieval Naples DLC.
Control Engineering Lab — Nanjing University of Science and Technology
2023Part-time research, two collaborative patent projects
- HDE-assisted PDR navigation correction: pedestrian dead reckoning and Kalman filtering to reduce indoor navigation drift; accelerometer and magnetometer calibration.
- Neural-network human motion positioning: TCN-based model for adaptive step-length prediction, with Python sensor-fusion pipelines.
Selected projects
Limit Order Book 📈
A low-latency C++ matching engine compiled to WebAssembly. Place orders and watch the book move, live in your browser.
Guandan 掼蛋 🃏
Play solo against bots or online with friends. The rules engine and AI are C++, and the browser and the server run the same code.
Mini Tank by Raspberry Pi
Open-source robotic tank with real-time control and live video streaming over the web.
Hajime: AI Language Converter
WeChat public account that translates text to and from a "secret language" with multimodal input.
